Talkin Jazz Jam Sessions Love jazz? Want to jam? Got a great attitude? Get along to the Talkin Jazz Jam sessions to meet other young musicians, professional players and get right into a hands-on jam session. On the third Saturday of each month, the Brisbane Jazz Club fills with high school students for the Talkin' Jazz Jam Sessions. Professional artists lead participants through the world of jazz with interactive discussions, hands-on workshops and a guided jam session guaranteed to be full of inspiration, energy and fun! The Talkin’ Jazz Jams are the ideal opportunity for young musicians and singers to learn about jazz, foster their creativity, meet like-minded individuals, form their own groups and learn from the best! You must have a basic command of your instrument and also be interested in jazz. The monthly jam sessions are a great way of meeting other young musicians around Brisbane and of connecting with industry professionals. The jam sessions also lead up to the mid year Performance Intensive held in the June-July holidays. Come along and get right into the exciting world of jazz! Talkin Jazz Performance IntensiveHigh school aged musicians and singers can register for two weeks of intensive workshops, mentoring and jamming which culminates in a weekend showcase performance at the Brisbane Jazz Club. This two-week block of workshops and rehearsals is aimed at high school aged musicians who are serious about taking their interest in jazz to a new level. Each day the participants will meet and be mentored by industry professionals headed by Melissa Western. The second week works towards the Performance Intensive Showcase Weekend where the Talkin Jazz Performance Intensive Participants showcase their skills and appear in front of a live audience at the Brisbane Jazz Club. Please be aware that there is a registration fee payable to cover some program costs. The Performance Intensive is not for the faint hearted, it’s hard work, but the rewards are huge. New bands have formed every year from this Showcase and many of our participants have gone on to professional music careers, the Qld Conservatorium and even VCA. Because this is high intensity, please be aware that when you arrive for registration you will be required to sign in to the program for the whole two week block. Fee: $110 You can book your place on the TJPI via our on-line bookings system. It's like booking a table at a Club night. Take a look at our Bookings page for how to use the sytem, especially the bits about signing in. Please sign in as yourself on the system, even if you are paying with your parents' credit card. When you have completed the booking, the system will send you an email with a "Print at Home Ticket" attached. Pages 2 and 3 of the "ticket" contain some more information for you and the last page is a form which you should complete and return to us asap. Please note that it is desirable to have attended at least one Jam Session prior to registering for the Performance Intensive.
